Paris&Co’s Club Open Innovation organizes an annual “LEX”, a Learning Expedition to discover innovation ecosystems abroad. After Oslo, Berlin and San Francisco, 2017 shines the spotlight on New York and its extraordinary startups and corporates. The focus of this year’s edition: corporate transformation. Naïma Jomni from Club Open Innovation tells us more.

  • What exactly is a LEX?

The Learning Expedition is just one of the many activities we offer members of Paris&Co’s Club Open Innovation. We bring together around 60 or so corporates who wish to reach out and connect with startups and share Open Innovation best practices. Once a year, we give startups the opportunity to discover an innovation ecosystem abroad. The LEX consists of an intensive 3-day program with onsite visits to the ecosystem’s major representatives (incubators, chambers of commerce, corporates...) and the key players driving it. It’s also a great way for Club members to reconnect with each other, far from the daily pressures of the workplace, and a chance to can share their experiences and come away with fresh ideas.

  • Does the LEX have a particular theme or focus?

This year, in addition to discovering New York’s innovation ecosystem, we wanted to work together on an issue common to all our Club members. We chose to focus LEX 2017 on corporate transformation, through case studies from major New York corporates such as Bloomberg, the American subsidiary of BNP and Mastercard.

  • What did participating Corporates expect from this trip, and what kind of feedback did you get?

There were about 2 participants from each major group including Carrefour, Enedis, Safran, Total, Diam International, JC Decaux, Bouygues, EDF, Gemalto, Groupe UP, L'atelier BNP Paribas, Sodexo, La ligue de l'enseignement, La Poste and Car Studio (Mobivia group).
